Former state rep
Ron Herrell, campaigning to reclaim the House District 30 seat that he lost in the 2004 GOP takeover of the Indiana State house, suffered a broken rib and head and face injuries in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon.

A Korean War veteran and a former fire-fighter, Ron Herrell served the district for three terms, 1998-2004. His meat-and-potatoes campaign platform focuses on kitchen table issues that are important in his district: education, jobs, health care, and gasoline taxes:

Herrell is working to retake the seat from freshman (and hopefully temporary) incumbent John Smith. This is
one of the key match-ups in the effort to regain the 3 seats needed to restore Democratic control of the lower chamber and deprive unpopular GOP governor Mitch Daniels of legislative control to screw up the state even more.
Herrell's campaign should be getting extra momentum from an up-ballot surprise: District 30 (essentially, the city of Kokomo and parts of surrounding Howard County) constitutes the southern tip of Indiana's 2nd Congressional District, where Democratic challenger Joe Donnelly has been raising good money and beating GOP incumbent Chocola in recent polls. The potential for up-ballot and down-ballot synergy is obvious. The two campaigns are helping each other.
Ron vows to continue his campaign without interruption but his injuries are obviously gonna slow him down. He'll need help. Fortunately, the blessed folks at ActBlue have activated Indiana state races, so we can help. I put a donation box for Ron at the top of the ActBlue page at:

What do you think? Can we raise a thousand bucks for this candidate before the weekend, to help him make up for the inevitable slowdown in his campaign schedule? We'll also be helping Joe Donnelly, IN-02, in the process.
