By great good fortune or the luck of the draw, of the 11 Democratic senators and 41 Democratic members of the House who voted the wrong way on torture and habeas corpus, there was only one that I was actively supporting: Chet Edwards.
This is the letter I just sent to his campaign:
Dear Edwards Campaign:
I view of Congressman Edwards' vote siding with the Republican
majority to allow the President to detain prisoners without trial and
torture them, I am withdrawing support for the Edwards campaign. I
have taken him off my ActBlue page at
http://www.actblue.com/... , where I had raised $240.45 for
him from 9 donors, one of whom was myself.
I would appeciate it if you would pass on that $240.45 to a Democratic
candidate for Congress who does not approve of torture, such as David
Harris (TX-06), Ted Ankrum TX-10), or Nick Lampson (TX-22).
Congressman Edwards can win or lose his 2006 campaign without much
need for the small sum I raised, so he can spare it; but it literally
nauseates me that I raised it for him.
Your prompt attention to this matter will be apprecated.
Sincerely,
Christopher Walker
